Dear Mr. Worth,

Thank you for your letter of the 19th March.

As I expect Lord Rothes explained to you, one of our reasons for trying the air cushion tyre was to save weight. We have some figures for American covers of similar type, and these are as follows :-

On the Buick the 6½ x 16 tyre weighs 21 lbs.

On the Essex the 6½ x 16 tyre weighs 20 lbs. 10 ozs.

Your 6 x 16 tyre weighs 24.41 lbs. which is actually more than an American 7 x 16 cover, which weighs only 24 lbs. 2 ozs.

We should like to have your opinion on these figures, because by fitting 5.Essex wheels to the Bentley at present we can save ½ cwt.

The Essex and Buick 6½ x 16 tyres are made by Messrs. Goodyear.

Yours faithfully,

FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED.
