'SS{S. Smith}' RADIATOR MOVEMENT.

| Engine Mounting. | Type of body or ballast. | Body mounting or ballast distribution. | Condition of cross. | % Radiator movement 18-EX 10,000 miles - condition taken as 100% |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| (1) Four Phantom type flexible rubber engine feet. | Chassis test kit. | Canvas scuttle ballast over rear spring centre. | Attached as design. | NIL. |
| (2) As above (1) | As above. | Mass of 200 lbs; attached each side of frame over front subframe brackets. | As above (1) | NIL. |
| (3) As above (1) | Covered test limousine body. | Bolted directly to frame without subframe. | As above (1) | 5% |
| (4) As above (1) | Enclosed Barker Limousine. | Mounted on std. subframe with normal rubber pads i.e. in 18-EX original 10,000 miles condition. | As above (1) | 100% |
| (5) Four torsional stiff rubber engine feet. | As above (4) | As above (4) | As above (1) | 20% |
| (6) As above (5) | As above (4) | Solid alum. packings under front subframe supports scuttle bolted solid to dash. | As above (1) | 10% |
| (7) As above (5) | As above (4) | Body single point mounted at front flexible semi-isolation scuttle to dash. | As above (1) | 7% |
| (8) As above (5) | As above (4) | As above. | Cross torsional rigidity removed. | 2% |
| (9) As above (5) | As above (4) | Mounted on std. subframe with normal rubber pads. | As above. | 5% |

In addition, removing the tie rods, tightening up the WW. dampers behind the gearbox and increased cross steering tube friction all appeared to reduce radiator movement.
