(Experimental Dept.) 1305 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Les.4/R.{Sir Henry Royce} 16th Sept., 1937. Messrs. Thos. Firth & John Brown Ltd., Atlas & Norfolk Works, S H E F F I E L D.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} 1. Dear Sirs, We are requiring two pairs of Phantom III rear springs to SCD.82, one pair 1350 lbs and the other pair 1250 lbs. These springs have the same size of eye each end, and the general finish is done to reduce the cost similar to your drawing 210. The lubrication for the front end is supplied through the eye. We notice that this drawing shows a groove on the underneath of the top plate in order to pass oil to the groove on the top of the 2nd plate. However, it appears that by continuing the groove in the 2nd plate it will be unnecessary to groove the top plate. Will you please arrange for these top plates not to be grooved unless it is found to be necessary. As we are wanting to fit the 1250 lbs springs to a car which is going to France in the near future, we should be very grateful if you would urge delivery. We should also like to have a price of these springs in production quantities. Would you also let us have a price for the Bentley springs in production quantities to your drawing No. 217. Yours faithfully, For ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
