x6021. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst.8/MA. 24th January, 1936. Messrs.Peto & Radford, Co.Ltd., Dagenham Dock, ESSEX. Dear Sirs, In reply to your letter of the 22nd instant we do not necessarily require a lightened battery for the Phantom III and 20/25 chassis. What we are asking for these chassis is a battery not dimensionally larger or heavier with a lower internal resistance. We visualise you will obtain this by fitting thinner plates to the cells, i.e. 3/32" as compared with 1/8" at present, retain the double separation and using copper embedded in the lead of the intercell connectors. We should like you therefore to supply the special Phantom III battery with the new stoppers complete with these other modifications so that we can test out the same. It is realised of course that the life of the battery will be less. Will you also let us have complete proposals on these lines for the 20/25 chassis battery. With regard to the new lighter Bentley battery, we have measured the internal resistance and find it to be more than the standard battery, its ampere-hour capacity on the 20 hr. rate is also considerably less than the figure you supplied. We are unable therefore to accept your statement that this battery will be better in the ratio of 1.1 to 1 for starting than our standard battery. | ||
