contd:- -2- This means that the engine had been running practically with no water. One could not imagine that the car would be run under this condition on the road because of the increase in detonation, and the smell of burnt oil and paint would make it obvious to the driver that the engine was short of water. We have examined the engine after these tests and find that there are still no signs of cracks and that the head is in perfect condition. One can see quite distinctly by the appearance of the parts, that the exhaust valves and cylinder head have been very much over-heated. We propose now to run a car on the road with the water boiling to see whether we can, under these conditions, reproduce the cracked cylinder head. We should like to point out that 4-Goshawk-11 engine is the car which previously had the cylinder head fail. This occurred when, as a chassis, was being driven to the Coachbuilders. It may possibly be that the pump on that car is not effective. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
