Dear Mr. Sidney,

You will remember that we have agreed to fit a filter between the carburretor and autovac of your New PhantomCodename for PHANTOM I, in order that, as far as possible, as excellent results may be experienced as you have had during the last 8,000 miles' run with the Phantom you are now using.

One difficulty which we have to keep in view is the fact that chamois leather is only to be depended upon to last effectively provided that pure petrol is used. One of the largest makers of the type of filter in which chamois leather is employed, has taken some trouble to point out to us that in the event of Benzole in any material proportion being used the chamois leather will rot. When on the Continent we find that all sorts of spirit is used, and many Rolls-Royce owners frequently use quite a large proportion of Benzole.

We should not feel happy, therefore, in fitting such a filter to your New PhantomCodename for PHANTOM I without giving you the above information.

Meanwhile, we are looking into the merits of a filter which is very promising, in which chamois leather is not employed, and provided we find no disadvantages arising with this, we should propose to fit such a filter to your New PhantomCodename for PHANTOM I.

Believe me,

Very sincerely yours,
