- 2 - Cont'd.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} It is not always possible, for policy reasons, to start making numerous modifications to an engine which has been in production for a long time, and which is shortly to be superceded by an engine of another type. On the other hand we notice that Leyland's are incorporating a lot of these alterations in their new design. Unfortunately, at the same time as they altered the lubrication system they are try-ing different bearing materials. I believe that we convinced Pilkington that the failures that he is worrying about were caused by momentary oil starvation. Personally, I am sure that this is so because the trouble was almost entirely confined to big ends and, in our experience, if a big end fails, it is due to shortage of lubrication in most cases. Yours sincerely, Encl: Letter to Pilkington. Leylands. | ||
