X. 275 RE 40/50 H.P. INDUCTION SYSTEM.

It is understood that the carburettor cannot at present be much altered, and we do not know whether this is capable of much improvement without a very great deal of experimental work and designing being put upon it. It is well heated both in the throat and in the throttle. This has many times proved to be valuable, and care should be taken that the water in cold weather, and in America, should be kept hot for this purpose, and for the purpose of maintaining the heat in the cylinders.

The only point which appears to be desirable of altering is the substitution of a very small pilot jet to ensure the engine continuing to run after it has been started up. This, we understand, would be capable of replacing the primer also, and would therefore serve a double purpose without extra complication, would have the advantage of doing away with the priming cock, and its fittings, and of the necessity of working the hand pump.

Regarding the induction pipe system, I have schemed a very simple arrangement which we think will provide a hot chamber in the vicinity of the junction in the induction pipe.

This arrangement would appear easily applicable to existing cars, and cars under construction. The sketch enclosed shews the idea, and how it does not materially alter the arrangement of the present pipes.

*Drawing will be sent to Derby in the course of the next post or two.
