Messrs. C.C.Wakefield,
Wakefield House,
30-32 Cheapside,
London E.C.2,

Dear Sirs,

For the attention of Mr. Evans.

We have received a 5-gall. drum of oil for chassis lubricating purposes and thank you for despatching same.

In our letter we asked for an oil which would be suitable for both gearbox and chassis lubrication purposes in winter and specified Prices Amber A, as being of the desired constituency. We do not know whether this oil which you have kindly sent us is recommended for gearbox practice as well and we shall be pleased to have your advice on this point, together with some information re. its constituents.

We have conducted a laboratory test on this oil and it appears phenomenally thick which would make it suitable for use in hot countries but it will only maintain its mobility down to -2°C which, of course, is not low enough for practical use in England. We may be able to recommend it for use on the chassis lubrication system in summer, but believe we shall prefer an oil which will fulfil the dual purpose previously stated.

At present the oils we recommend are as follows :
Engine : and chassis/(Winter) lubrication Prices Motorine 'C' Wakefields 'XL'.
Gearbox : and chassis lubrication - (Summer) Prices Amber 'A'.

We thank you for your remarks re. differentiation between oils and greases.

Yours faithfully,
