EFC. WA.{Mr Wallis}32. TEST AND EXAMINATION OF WATFORD EO6 MAGNETO No.56991. On examining this magneto the following were observed. (1) Primary gap .014" and .018" - a difference of .004" between each side. Not O.K. to production test. (2) Safety gap 8.4 mm. O.K. (3) Carbon brushes O.K. (4) Cam ring tends to stick in the advance position. (5) Aluminium distributor gear wheel cracked at the centre. (6) Contact breaker O.K. A test was then made to determine the noise emanating from the magneto when running. It was found that at slow speeds the noise was about the same as that of an ordinary standard machine but at speeds above 1500 r.p.m. it developed undue noisiness. The majority of the noise was caused by the contact breaker, gears, and the 'flapping' of the sleeves. The analysis was as follows :- Contact breaker. 50% Sleeves. 20% Gears. 25% Carbon brushes 5% At high speeds this machine is considered to be worse, as regards noise, than the average production machine. The magneto functions satisfactorily electrically. EFC/HEW. | ||
