X4706 To Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c.c. Mr. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Dy.{F R Danby} K.1/HP.27.3.34. re 20/25 HP. Single Cylinder unit. Replying to your memo Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}6/E.26.3.34, there is a special reason for fitting roller instead of plain bearings to this unit, the object being to get the mechanical efficiency as high as possible so that the power readings will be more commensurate with what we obtain from the multi cylinder engine. At the same time the roller bearing is somewhat more reliable, and we do not regard the single cylinder unit as a means of testing main bearings or as a reliable guide to lubrication conditions in the full scale engine. We are confident that we shall obtain all the information that can be usefully got with the arrangement at present on this power unit. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} | ||
