EPC1/T. 1st. May 1919. X.295 Messrs. Smith & Sons, 179-185 Great Portland Street, London, W.1. Dear Sirs, RE LIGHTING SET. We are instructing to be returned to you the set of lamps and the accumulator belonging to the lighting set you recently submitted to us. Regarding the lamps, we should not be supplying these with the chassis, but the choice would be left to the individual customer. Regarding the accumulator, this is a P. & R.{Sir Henry Royce} and is nearly identical with one we have from that Firm for the purpose of testing. We have, therefore, done nothing with this accumulator but are returning it to you in the same dry condition as sent. Regarding the instruments, we are retaining these for the time being, as there are one or two other points we wish to note about them. Although the design of these, and of the combined instrument and switch in particular, is very neat and good, we do not feel it is quite the type of thing we should like to have on our chassis. We are designing an instrument board to represent our own ideas. Regarding the two dynamos submitted to us, we have examined one of these but have so far made no tests. A test, however, will be proceeded with almost immediately now. You will appreciate that there is so much experimental electrical work to be done at the moment, that we cannot settle down to any one particular job immediately. We like the appearance and construction of the dynamo generally, with one exception, that is, that the commutator appears to be a poor job. We will inform you of the results of tests as soon as they are available. Yours faithfully, | ||
