Page 2 Sheave Top Width Next in importance to the sheave angle is the sheave top width. After the correct "Angle Card" has been determined by the above procedure, place a ruler or another card across the top of the sheave pulley against the correct "Angle Card." Draw a fine pencil line on the "Angle Card" so as to show the pulley top width. Draw Fine Line on 36° Card Pulley Outside Diameter Next obtain the pulley outside diameter by means of a pair of calipers or, when possible, with a ruler. Be sure to secure the measurements of the same pulley that was measured for angular measurement. Record this measurement somewhere on the "Angle Card." Belt Outside Circumference With a tape, preferably flexible steel, measure the outside circumference of the old belt. Also notice the amount of take-up left with the old belt installed and the total length of the take-up slot. Record on the correct "Angle Card" the old belt's outside circumference, the amount of the take-up left with the old belt installed on the assembly, and the total length of the take-up slot. General Information In specifying a belt we should know whether the belt is for a bus, passenger car, truck, etc. Therefore, we should have the make, model and year of the vehicle. The make of the old belt and its belt number is also valuable information and is quite useful in specifying the correct replacement belt. | ||
