X. 4617. P. & R.{Sir Henry Royce} Batteries - 40/50 HP. Chassis.

Upon receipt of yours By/CT/P11.3.24, we wrote Peto & Radford acknowledging receipt of their letter of 7th inst. and blueprints SK.4293 and SK.4293/1.

We pointed out that the blueprints do not give the overall length and width of the battery and as regards the height they specify 10.7/64ths from underside of container to top of handle, which equals 10.109", whereas the total depth available inside our battery box is 10.15". We added that it is important that they see that the dimension they have given is in no way exceeded.

We also stated that in a few days we shall be issuing a revised specification for this battery.

We are this morning in receipt of a reply from Peto & Radford, dated 13th inst. as follows:-

"We thank you for yours of the 12th re battery
"and note what you say.

"You may take it that our battery in overall
"dimensions will conform to your limits. If necessary,
"we can rub down the top of the lead coating of the
"handles slightly with a file to bring the height down
"the necessary fraction.

"We should like to ask your wishes as to where
"the label on the battery is to be put. We had thought
"of using a label about 3½" x 4½", but almost any other
"size can be arranged, but we should like to put it in
"some place where it will not be scraped off by the
"wedges. Would you please advise us where you con-
"sider the best place for fixing this."
