Messrs. Joseph Lucas Ltd.,
Great King Street,
BIRMINGHAM, 19.

For the attention of Mr. W.G.Robinson.

Dear Sirs,

We have recently received from Delco Products of Dayton, U.S.A., a new type of starting motor clutch. The claims for this type of clutch are:-

(1) Simplicity.
(2) Cheapness.
(3) Reliability.
(4) No maintenance necessary.

We are sending you this sample clutch which is similar to the type which is to be used on the majority of 1940 American cars, and we would like to have your criticisms both as to its worth and also as to the possibility of your being interested in making a similar type clutch in England.

The only details we can give you concerning its operation are that -

(a) it is not the constant mesh type which is evidenced by the chamfer cut on the teeth of the pinion, and

(b) the clutch is of either the ball or roller bearing type.
