(2) REAR AXLE. - Phantom III centre casing with cheap axle tubes as already instructed.- N.Sch.4944, but fitted with Jackall hydraulic jacks. ALTERNATIVE - new Wraith axle N.Sch.4954, 1.625 Hypoid, and suitable for Bentley III. REAR BRAKES. - As already instructed. - N.Sch.4839, with die cast aluminium drums, and with minor cheapening mods to be instructed. FRONT BRAKE EQUALISING GEAR. - To suit Packard type suspension. SERVO COUNTERSHAFT. - Modified scheme to be issued shortly. R.{Sir Henry Royce} A HUB. - As already instructed. ALTERNATIVE - To suit new Wraith axle N.Sch.4954. SERVO MOTOR MECHANISM. - Latest scheme - N.Sch.5028, which incorporated several cheapening features, and uses many existing Phantom III parts. FRONT AXLE. - Entirely new - Packard type front suspension. CROSS STEERING TUBE. - -do- FRONT BRAKES. - To be modified to suit Packard type front suspension. 13" dia. die cast brake drums, and road wheels as instructed and fitted to the first chassis. FRONT HUB. - -do- SPRING SUSPENSION MECHANISM. - Entirely new. Packard type front suspension. ALTERNATIVE - Existing Wraith front suspension as fitted to first chassis. FRAME AND FITTINGS. - As already instructed, and as fitted to the first car, using thick gauge frame .092. WING STAYS. - To suit new radiator. FRONT APRON. - As already instructed - Led.5279. FRONT SPRINGS AND FITTINGS. - New - Packard type front suspension. REAR SPRINGS AND FITTINGS. - Woodhead's road springs, with lubrication to top leaf only. - Small eye to front and of rear springs - No rubber bush if experimental find this can be done away with. STEERING COLUMN AND BOX. - As already instructed - N.Sch.4789, but with the following modifications. (1) outer steering column tube - chromium plate only sleeve at upper end. Remainder black stove enamelled. (2) Covers FW.145/6 made in one piece, die cast in alum. (3) Control quadrant F.89129 die cast in alum, instead of forged silver bronze. (4) Control quadrant holder F.88356 in forged steel instead of forged silver bronze. | ||
