BENTLEY III. CROSS STEERING ARRANGEMENT AND LEVERS.
-------------------------------

On N.Sch.5190 herewith we show the arrangement of the Bentley III. cross steering levers on the wheels and the centre steering lever. The drawing also defines the centres of the ball joints of the cross steering tube.

The centre steering lever bearing follows the design of that for Wraith III. The whole assembly of the lever, plus bearing and housing, is introduced, with the bearing pin horizontal, through the window in the frame crossmember. It is then revolved and the lower spigot is introduced into the hole in the lower plate. From above is then brought down a sheet metal circular pot into which the top of the bearing housing has a spigot.

This drawing also shows the inner bearings of the forward lower triangles of the suspension. It would appear after discussion with Messrs. Silentbloc that there is little hope of making an exact copy of the rubber bearing which Messrs. Packard use at this point, i.e., an Inlox bearing having enlarged and flattened ends on the solid inner shaft. Messrs. Silentbloc, however, have produced a bearing having exactly similar characteristics to the Inlox bearing of the Packard without these ends, and it is that bearing which we have shown on this scheme.

Att: N.Sch.5190.
