Dear Sir,

Many thanks for your letter of Oct 31st, with the interesting curves attached. You undoubtedly have better facilities for measuring pistons than we have here, and therefore your figures are more accurate than our own.

We should like to raise one point with you - we are getting a small increase in H.P. from the Aerolite pistons, but naturally this will need confirming. We should like to know if you have any information as to whether or not we can expect any reduction in oil temperature with the use of Aerolite pistons. Actually we do not anticipate much of a drop because we have carried out some experiments which show that not more than 2/7 of the heat is due to the pistons, and losses from low mechanical efficiency one would expect normally to be absorbed by the cooling water.

We should like any figures you have showing the strength of the alloy you are using for your pistons compared with RR.53. You can of course get any information you want about RR.53 from High Duty Alloys.

We are glad to observe that we may expect the pistons on Friday of this week. We shall be able to test them almost immediately.

Yours faithfully,
