| To Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}: c. to By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. to R/Lid.{A. J. Lidsey} c. to Sft.{Mr Swift} X 223 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux}3/KW.28.2.34. BENTLEY EXHAUST SYSTEM. With reference to R/Lid.{A. J. Lidsey}1/HP.27.2.34. We are in agreement with the view of doing away with as many flanges as possible, and we shall be interested to see whether Sft.{Mr Swift} can produce the silencer complete. We do not however believe it to be a practical job. It means definitely a two-handed job in dismantling or fitting up. To keep weight down and make it a more practical job we would suggest making the system in three sections - (1) Front down pipe, front expansion box, intermediate and first silencer up to the cut-out. The flange here to be made similar to the 25 HP., which would lessen distortion. (2) From the cut-out and rear silencer up to the swan neck or tail pipe. (3) Swan neck, or tail pipe.
