For the attention of Mr.Dorer

Dear Sirs,

With regard to the experimental thermometer and oil pressure gauge unit which you have recently supplied. We have two criticisms to make -

(1) The instrument has the wrong type bulb fitted and is therefore not to our drawing Ex.S.14 and drawing D.75953 supplied to you.

(2) The calibration is not quite correct, since the mark on the dial at hot end of the temperature scale corresponds to 108°C. and not 110°C. as requested.

We are returning the instrument to you for correction of these deficiencies, and after examination of the dial have decided that we would like you to modify it in accordance with the new print of Ex.S.14 drawing which we enclose herewith.

Will you please destroy the old prints of Ex.S.14 which you have, in order to avoid confusion - we have requested our Order Office to send you an official order for this modification.

We are also despatching to you, marked for the attention of Mr.P.O.Dorer, a thermometer and oil gauge unit to D.75953 which has a longer capillary than standard 8' 6" instead of 6' 6" - this capillary has fractured.

We should like you (a) to examine the fractured capillary and tell us whether you can give any reason for the failure. (b) to modify the instrument in accordance with our drawing (print attached). Our Official order for this will follow.

Yours faithfully,

FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD
