Sometime ago it was decided to change all mild steel differential boxes on P.III. cars owing to - (1) Failure on a 20/25. of a wrongly machined part. (2) A cracked part found in the Shop but of unknown history. Out of the 58 cars to be changed 22 still have to be done. In view of the fact that a cracked part has not been discovered on a customer's car and a mild steel one has run 57 hours on dynamometer on 2nd. gear, we recommend that the remaining 22 cars should not be changed.
