We have received the following telegram from Mr. Royce:- "IS AXLE PERIOD STILL BAD WITH DOUBLE REAR BRAKES IF CENTRAL BRAKE DRUM REMOVED AND FRICTION DAMPED COUPLING RETAINED" Royce C/o RolheadRolls-Royce telegram address. 21/2/13. in reply to which Mr. Haldenby reports as follows:- "In reply to Mr. Royce's wire, we should say that the axle period is still there when central brake drum is removed but not so pronounced as with drum fitted. The axle on which these brakes are fitted had a bad period previously and we would rather wait until another axle is prepared before expressing a definite opinion and we propose to change the gears to see if this alters the period".
