Goshawk Dynamo with 20 SWG Field

The laboratory experimental dynamo has been rewound on the field with 20 gauge wire in place of the standard 19 SWG, with a view to reducing the exciting current & increasing the output at high speeds.

The slots in the control-brush carrier were lengthened & the brush given extra retard, so that the maximum output cold (18°C) was just over 14 amps. This occurred at about 1600rpm. The output then fell off to 8.0 amps at 3000 rpm.

When run on the bench rig for several hours, at maximum output.
