| 450b. TO RH.{R. Hollingworth} RM{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/IMN. In further reply to our letter RM{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/IMN.S/V.R.25.1.39. We have examined the hand brake steady spring & find that it has only stretched .170". On the arrangement drawing the lever inside the frame should be .500" behind the bracket centre line. at the rod's pin hole. ours is only .250". We also had an extra link in the spring of 2.230" thus when originally fitted there was no tension on the spring. we have accordingly made a small link to make up the difference in the angle of the lever to obtain 18 lbs on the spring in the off position. Regarding the propshaft lubrication, whilst the floor boards are very near to the X member we do not think they deflect sufficiently to foul it. You will see on todays report that there is evident wear on the splines which has probably left a shoulder on the female splines to cause the lack of movement on large spring deflections. We note your remarks regarding the air filter cartridge, we took a sample of the new one (American) after 1424 miles & it was quite free of dirt but brown generally. Cont'd | ||
