To Ey. and Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from HDY.{William Hardy} HDY.{William Hardy}IHP.12.10.34. c. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} Gear Lever Rattles - Bentley. ----------------------------- N. Sch.4226 herewith shows a suggestion for diminishing the gear lever rattles. We provide an extra floating bush at the outer bearing and all of the clearances except the outermost one are more than normal. It is intended that these clearance spaces should be more or less filled with oil. Our impression of the movement of the bracket at 3000-3500 r.p.m. is that it is very small in amplitude and that the clearance provided may allow the operating shaft to remain behind and that the oil film if it can be maintained will prevent noise at the bearing. The chassis lubrication system may serve to keep the bearing sufficiently lubricated. Print attached HDY.{William Hardy} | ||
