x7930. c. Ha/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} BY3/G.16.12.30. BRAKE SQUEAKS. Referring to Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}13/E.15.12.30. standardisation sheet is in circulation for the Hancock scheme. We are detailing the scheme exactly as it has been used, and the drawings for all the parts will be available this week. It can be brought in for N.2 series, but it will mean a certain amount of scrap. We are making enquiries as to how far the Works have gone with the present brake shoes. The first four cars which arebeing built for America are instructed for the standard brake shoes, and are being started upon this week for erection. It may, therefore, mean that we will have to change over to the Hancock shoes later - this, however, is not a big job. If you will give your consent to my going ahead immediately I can instruct both N.2 and the L.H. chassis to be fitted up with front brakes as suggested. The rear brake has not suffered from squeaks, and so far Hancock's device has not been fitted to the rear, but we are getting out a design to incorporate this in an experimental set. BY.{R.W.
