"STRAIGHT EIGHT" ENGINES,
AND HISPANO SIX.
--------------------------

These should be watched by you and Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rn.{Mr Robinson} with extreme keenness.

They appear to be made in two forms - (1) what we call the split four, with half the second four at each end, like Packard, and others, or (2) the double four, like Isotta, Dusenberg, and others.

As we understand the system they are both imperfect as regards balance, and they must reach their primary crankshaft period. How this is minimised should be the subject of your observations.

Also it would appear that there is some mystery about the hispano six, which appears to have no damper flywheel, and no periods. This should be confirmed by fitting an induction system which will give a correct mixture from low speed upwards, so that this engine can be compared with our own.
