Y7791 c. Mailing c. By c. By/NHW. EFC2/T. 26th March, 1928. Messrs. North & Sons Ltd., Whippendell Road, Watford. Dear Sirs, Lubrication of Watford E.W.6. Magnetos. We have noted your recommendation that the distributor bearing of these magnetos should be lubricated every 500 miles. The main bearings of the magneto, however, need not be lubricated except every 2000 miles. Our Instruction Book recommendations at present stand for oiling magneto every 2000 miles, and it appears that it will be necessary to alter this. Our query at the moment is as to whether the 500 miles could not be made into 1000, and in fact that the instructions for the lubrication of the magnetos generally could not be made 1000 miles, in order to avoid complication. If you say it must be as often as 500 miles for the distributor bearing, then we shall have to give the figures of 500 for this, and 2000 for the main bearings, unless, as a third suggestion, we consider that all bearings may be oiled every 500 miles on account of the drainage with which the main bearings are provided. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
