To Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} from Ev{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}/DB.{Donald Bastow - Suspensions} C. to Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} & Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/HH. 746 Ev{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}/DB.{Donald Bastow - Suspensions}3/ET.6.12.40. FRONT SUSPENSION MYTH. 1030 PL.428, attached to this memo, shows the coil spring for the Myth front suspension, suitable for a sprung load of 600 lbs. at the wheel and having a rating corresponding to a static deflection of 5.5", assuming that the various bushes in the suspension linkage have a rating of 25 lb/in. at the wheel. The low maximum stress, i.e. 96,000 lbs/in2 approx., corrected, implies that the material can be inferior to that used on the B.V springs. It also implies that the weight of the spring is on the high side and a later scheme will show a higher stressed spring which can be used if weight reduction is desired.
