X.4430 - CAPACITY TEMPERATURE TESTS OF GOSBANK CONDENSERS.

Further to our EFC {E. Fowler Clarke - Electrical Engineer} 3/T29.10.23, herewith please receive copy of my assistant's report on the effect of lower temperatures than normal atmospheric on paper dielectric condensers.

It was thought that maintaining the condenser at a low temperature would, as previously explained, lower its capacity temperature curve, all the condensers having previously been through heating tests have bodily raised their capacity-temperature curve. This effect, however, has not been observed - probably the freezing temperature to which the condensers were subjected was not sufficiently low.

It will be noted, however, that the capacity at the lower atmospheric temperature is considerably less than at normal temperature, the extent of the reduction being approximately the same as previously observed for rising temperature, namely, about 1.5% per oC.
