X. 30146 Noisy Dynamos.

Following our Conference on the 3rd inst. I wrote the Lucas Electrical Co.Ltd. as follows:-

"During the last 5 to 6 weeks we have returned to "you 18 dynamos for various faults and we have now to "return you a further batch of 7 dynamos which are "faulty and, in this connection, we may say that two "of the latter batch have been returned to you on a "former occasion and have not been fully corrected.

"Some of the defects are mechanical, but we have "still complaints to make of noisiness and it has been "decided that in future every dynamo shall on receipt "be fitted on a special rig which we have erected here "and shall be run under the same conditions as it will "run on the chassis, charging batteries.

"If the dynamos do not satisfy our Test Dept. on "account of the noise which they make when running "under working conditions, we shall have to return "them to you, either straight away or after you have "been afforded an opportunity of seeing them on test "here."

Today Mr.Breedon, of the Lucas Electrical Co.Ltd. informed me by 'phone that his people quite agree that the action we are taking is justified and they are quite prepared to send an inspector here to be present at the initial test of the dynamos on our special rig.

He suggested that the dynamos should be allowed to accumulate in our Stores until about 40 have been delivered and that we should then arrange for their inspector to come here to see the whole batch put through their tests on the rig.

Do you see any objection to this arrangement?

Wd.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead}
