HOTEL DE FRANCE, CHATEAUROUX. Indre. France. GWH{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux}/IMW{Ivan M. Waller - Head of Chateauroux}/4/JAB. 9th September 1936 To. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} c/c G.W.H. [text is crossed out] 6. B. IV. Further to my telegram of to-day's date, I enclose sketch of N° 6 big-end. The failure occurred yesterday evening while accelerating in top gear after passing through a village. We were only 18 miles away from Châteauroux, so drove slowly home. The crankshaft appears in good condition. N° 5 big-end has one crack in it, the others are in good condition. The main bearing metal is in good condition for the mileage, but wear has taken place estimated at .015" to .020" on the rear bearing, and the shells show signs of movement in the caps. We have not removed the crankshaft and are awaiting instructions. -------------------- GWH{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux}/IMW.{Ivan M. Waller - Head of Chateauroux} Frank Waller | ||
