To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from CJ.

My dear R.{Sir Henry Royce},

If you would like to be present at the Board Meeting on the 7th when your memorandum concerning 4 speed and 3 speed gear boxes is to be submitted, I am sure that the Directors would agree that the Meeting should be held in London instead of in Derby.

In any case, you may be quite sure that your point of view will be properly put forward and considered.

I rather wish that you could kindly let me have for this purpose a statement of the engineering advantages which the 3 speed has over the 4 speed.

You speak of the cost being 10 times as large. I presume that means the cost of the gate and of certain mechanism? It would be useful if you could state in respect of what pieces the cost will be increased 10 times.

Yours ever,

C.J.
