With reference to the attached correspondence & your request for a draft letter to Phillipss on certain grounds.

The grounds for complaint pointed out by Mr Royce were that we had been in danger of losing a valuable part of our patent for Epicyclic gears thr' the short-comings of Messrs Phillipss.

The valuable part referred to was afterwards proved to have been anticipated & we ultimately abandoned the application referring to this part. Of course this fact does not excuse Messrs Phillipss (they did not state that they had knowledge of the anticipation as the reason for their alteration) but it makes the letter rather difficult to write & I am not sure whether you would wish for the letter to be written under these circumstances.
