SHAFT UNIVERSAL JOINT - BENTLEY With regard to the indentation of the track of a joint pin GB.2311 reported by GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} and the Laboratory's Report thereon, there are two points to consider:- (1) The case could be increased to .060 and the core strength regained by use of S/ZNCR as on P.III. (2) The number of rollers on the R.R. design is now such that the total peripheral clearance is .006 and on the Hardy Spicer shafts about .075" which figure is more in keeping with Hoffmann's recommendations. The length of the Hardy Spicer rollers is only .4 instead of .6 which is less likely to cause cross binding. We suggest drawings are made to try both these modifications on an Experimental car.
