BJS/H4.2.22.

Confirming our conversation this morning, our chief object is to obtain practical experience of running an open touring car with 14-tooth axle,

a) with high compression;
b) with lower compression,

in order that we may ascertain what effect the lower compression has in reducing vibration and whether the reduction of compression will seriously affect the speed and hill-climbing.

If you and Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} will kindly draw up a programme of what tests it is proposed should be made, and when, and if you will please arrange with the Brooklands track people, I am sure it would be most useful. I understand that you will make arrangements for me to try the open car with high and low compression, so that I may form an opinion with regard to vibration.

I understand that the GoshawkAero EngineCodename for 20HP Car / Aero Engine after KestrelAero Engine is going to Mr. Royce shortly. I am sorry I was unable to try it last night, but should be very glad if it could be sent to London a day or two before it goes to Mr. Royce, so that I may have an opportunity of trying it.
