A.{Mr Adams} Rowbotham, Esq., Messrs. Rolls Royce Ltd., Nightingale Road, Derby. Dear Rowbotham, I have your letter of the 27th inst. in regard to the use of Magnesium. We have, of course, supplied you with several pieces such as the parts you mention, and they have been looked into on the question of price when discussing it from that angle with Mr. Bailey. The results present us with definite proof that we could not hope to give you these castings at a cheaper price that we have supplied. I shall be very glad to come and discuss this matter with you, and in fact I have an arrangement to come to Derby nextweek, and I propose being there on Wednesday providing it is convenient to Mr. Wilson, with whom I have also certain things to discuss. On the other hand, if you would like to make the discussion at these Works, then Monday, Tuesday or Friday would suit, or by arrangement with Mr. Wilson I could alter the date I have fixed to be in Derby if it would be more convenient for you to be here. There is one thing you must appreciate, that is, firms like Crossley's, A.E.C., and Leyland have not got your people's experience in the design and use of the aluminium alloys, and many of them are using Magnesium castings without the saving in weight that would be indicated by the difference in Specific Gravity, and it is not such a simple matter to utilise Magnesium castings when the full / Contd...... | ||
