6103 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/RC.{R. Childs}8/JH. 8th October, 1937. The National Physical Laboratory, Teddington. Dear Sirs, We are interested in the problem of measuring high voltages of the frequency and characteristics met with in ignition coil work, and wondered whether you would be good enough to help us, by suggesting or recommending suitable apparatus, or even literature, for the purpose. At present our method is to rectify the discharges from the secondary winding of the coil, by means of a valve rectifier, using a calibrated sphere-electrode spark gap for measuring the rectified voltage. This, however is not a consistant or reliable method, and we need something more precise and accurate, and preferably not effected by polarity. We have in mind a static voltmeter but do not know whether such a thing exists for this kind of work. We should greatly appreciate any information on the subject. Thanking you in anticipation. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
