Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/AJL.3/AD3.7.30.Contd. -3- Other body rattles. The rear portion of the car is really quite good. The rear doors are hinged differently from the front and do not shew very much dilapidation. Wheel Arch Clearances. This body has not got the correct wheel and brake drum arch clearances. In view of the work which the car had to do it seems wrong that this point was not checked before the car left. To make matters worse the already inadequate clearances have been reduced by the presence of two wing stay nuts on each side. The brake drum dust covers and the wheel arches are badly damaged. Wings. The wings have come through remarkably well; we find that this type of wing, having no connection to the running board lasts longer than the long type of wing which has chassis distortion transmitted to it via the running boards. One of the rear wings rattles due to the stone guard fixing having broken. CHASSIS PARTS. Subframe Rear Brackets. There is a doubt about the cause of this breakage. It may have been due to the fouling of the axle on the brake drum arch. The evidence is not sufficient to say definitely; the actual bracket was not fouled, but the body was badly fouled immediately above the fixing to the bracket. In spite of this we think we should let the bracket have the benefit of the doubt and strengthen it up. | ||
