Dept. FOH/AD Your Ref. Handwritten: X1020 Messrs. Rolls-Royce, Limited, D E R B Y . 7th July, 1936. For the attention of S.H. Grylls, Esq. Dear Sirs, BEVEL PINION BEARINGS: With reference to your visit on Friday last, and discussion regarding the above, we have pleasure in enclosing copy of our drawing S.5595 outlining the bearings and mounting which we would recommend. The scheme as put forward will, as you will note, fit into the existing space with only very minor alterations, and therefore, it will be possible to try this job out in one of your existing axles quite readily. Further, the bearing put forward gives an increase of 18 1/2% greater journal capacity than the existing bearing GB.2035, and an increase of 16% over the existing thrust capacity of this bearing. From the point of view of general production, it would, of course, be advisable to consider modifying the bearing so as to eliminate the recessing of the inner, while further, if any modifications to the axle casing are also contemplated, it would be advisable to increase the O.D. slightly so as to obtain a little more rigidity in the outer ring.
