J.N.Longley Esq.,
Chief Chemist,
Messrs. Ferodo Limited,
Chapel-en-le-Frith.

Dear Mr. Longley,

I am sending you under separate cover the 0.9% carbon steel brake drum, as promised. I am also sending another kind of C.I. drum, made of R.R. cylinder iron, which, if you have time when all the other tests are finished, you might try for fading.

I enclose some photomicrographs, and our Laboratory Report. When Lake & Elliot's metallurgist was last here he promised in spite of protests to try to reproduce the structure you have been advocating. His efforts, judging by specimens 118 and 119, which I received recently, have not been wholly successful, and I should like you to confirm, or otherwise, my impression that this material would not be suitable for rubbing against Ferodo. If you find it desirable I can let you have some drums with this structure.

I also enclose our pictures of "Lepaz" Iron, and the makers' booklet, in which they print a photomicrograph. Since you have already tested this material, perhaps you can give me your opinion of it. If you approve, I can let you have two drums made of "Lepaz".

When the tests you are so kindly making for us are a little more advanced, I should be gladto come over and discuss the results with you.

Kind regards,

Yours very truly,

FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED.
