RE. SS.{S. Smith} AIR PUMP ASSEMBLY.

Regarding the question of assembling the camshaft wheel and air pump conn. rod in position on the engine we propose to use studs in the eccentric insteadof screws, so that when threading the camshaft wheel on the camshaft the three studs would be picked up first and so guide the eccentric into place.

There is no reason we can see for using tight fits, so all should go together easily.

RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} has tried this out for us on an engine, and reports that it overcomes the assembly difficulty.

The studs can be put right through the full thickness of the eccentric and lightly riveted on the ends.

The oil feed hole opposite the throw of the eccentric can be drilled through the stud on that side.

The nuts for these studs must be securely locked and we propose to use two plates, as in sketch, of about 22 SWG. soft steel.

Would you kindly [word crossed out] issue the necessary instructions.

E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer}
