It occurred to us that whereas we had previously generally altered only one items from standard at a time, we might ~~put~~ up an experiment with our own apparatus as nearly like the Remy as we know how. Accordingly we arranged a test differing from standard in the following four respects :-

(1) No distributor.
(2) Scrubbing action.
(3) Off-set lever.
(4) Quicker break cam.

On a previous test with these variations singly, as reported, the only single one making any real difference was the scrubbing action. The test of the combination of the four items is not yet quite completed (will finish at weekend) but so far is going particularly well. (As to whether it is better than any previous test we cannot yet say definitely).

It occurred to us that if we get a particularly good result, we should then, instead of as previously trying out each single item separately, take this other extreme and try this arrangement with each item dropped out separately. In this way, having tried the arrangements 1,2,3 and 4, and then 1+2+3+4, we should try the arrangements 2+3+4, 1+3+4, 1+2+4 and 1+2+3, except that we should leave out the second one because it does not contain 2, the idea being to see by the removal of which ~~each~~ item the very good result was lost. It might also be worth while, depending on results trying the twin combination of item 2 with each of the others. i.e. 1+2, 2+3, 2+4.
