Bentley Motors Ltd. Derby..........Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Showrooms Sr/DnII/MLG.20.5.36 FILE Re- 24 hours race at Le Mans Dear "Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}", I give you hereunder translation of a letter I have received from Mr. Geo Lefèvre dated the 19th instant re the question of brake drums etc. " In agreement with Rousseau and Ravignaux we request you merely to write to the A.C.O. saying that you withdraw the question you recently put to this club in the name of Mr. Hall. We have decided that as regards the question you asked we have not to reply to you seeing that it is not you who have engaged the car but Mr. Hall who alone is entitled to ask the question. " This will enable you to withdraw your request and thus raise no further trouble. We cannot in fact contemplate for a second the question of controlling the composition of the material employed on a chassis, either for special steels or for aluminium alloys or as regards the case of Mr. Hall, the material employed for brake drums. This material not being specified in the catalogue we do not therefore have to intervene for the purpose of controlling the composition. " Furthermore, as regards the question of stocking material for 30 cars, Mr. Hall has no need to attend to this as he is not a manu-facturer.He is an individual competitor and consequently he is not subjected to the conditions edicted for manufacturers." I trust that you will be pleased to get this news, and I can assure you it has been no easy task to obtain this result, but thanks to the fact that these people are all friends, I have got them pull a few strings.
