consequently the main pressure increases as the rate of pump delivery increases, the point where the relief valve starts to lift being clearly defined on the curves at a speed of approx. 500 r.p.m.

The following we think supplies a satisfactory explanation why the pressure, and consequently the oil flow, at the intermediate bearings is less than the main and also decreases with speed of rotation. The oil pressure at the big ends is augmented by the centrifugal forces and should be approx. of the proportions shown by this curve calculated for an oil of density 55 lbs/cu.ft.
