Dear Mr.Sidgreaves,

re 12 Cylinder Maybach Car.

I have to thank you for your kind lines of the 21st inst., ref: Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}7/E21.3.30.

There has an enormous amount of publicity been given in this country to the above car the production of which is actually going on for some time. I have personally seen quite a lot of chassis and complete cars without, however, finding an opportunity of trying them. The manufacturers seem to sell a fair amount.

No chassis have so far been exported to England and the manufacturers are still on the look-out for a suitable agent.

I am sending you to-day under separate cover a complete catalogue giving quite a number of interesting details. As regards performance I expect to try one of Erdmann & Rossi's consignment chassis on completion in about 4 weeks' time. I am giving below extract from a report Mr.E.A.Robinson has submitted to me:

"12-Cylinder-V engine. Water pump, Dynamo and ignition distribution housed in V.{VIENNA} between cylinder blocks. 2 MAYBACH patent carburetters situated at extreme outside of each cylinder block. Gear driven fan, drive of which is also driving two distributors; one being situated immediately over fan drive on the other extreme end of dynamo shaft. The engine unit appears to be extremely heavy. The cylinder head is being very large and of cast iron. There is only one plug per cylinder and ignition is solely battery. The carburation appears to be somewhat starved as there is provision on the engine for sucking hot gasses from the crankcase by means of a long large diameter pipe.
