During the past 5 years there has been intensive development into the type of Indicator referred to above and this development has been accelerated by the advent of television, which is making the production of the necessary Cathode Ray Oscillograph Tube much cheaper than hitherto. I have already examined one instrument of this type, which has been developed by the Anglo American Oil Co. in conjunction with Metropolitan Vickers and the latter Company are now about to start production. The only difference between the two instruments is that the indicating element in the case of the Met.Vickers instrument is a low resistance pile as compared with the quartz pile used in the German instrument. A similar instrument has been developed by the Asiatic Petroleum and British Petroleum Oil Companies at the Laboratories at Sunbury and I have been advised by Mr. Pye to go down to see this, before we decide on the purchase of either a Zeiss Ikon or the Met. Vickers instrument. I shall do this with Mr. Tweedie in the course of the next fortnight. In any case we shall have one or other of these instruments for trial purposes within the next 3 months and we think the British made instruments are so excellent that we need not go abroad. ------------ Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wd.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead} | ||
