EPCL/17.3.24.

The brushes on dynamos A and D were of the
same standard Z material. The brushes on dynamos R3 and
470 were EG2 and EGO Morganite material respectively.

After certain periods of running an examination
in situ was made of the commutator and brush gear of each
of these four machines, the machines A, D,470 and R3 having
respectively done 1120, 2460,5303 and 3923 miles on their
respective chassis. The results of this examination are
contained in my assistant's report AB.97 attached, dated
7.1.24.

At that time it was decided to allow each of
these dynamos to complete 5,000 miles, after which it was
taken off the chassis for more critical examination.

The first one to be removed was 470 from 6GII,
after completing 6644 miles, and the report on the commutation
of this is contained in AB.99 of 21.1.24, attached.

The second machine to be removed was dynamo R3
from 7GII, after covering 5419 miles -see AB.102 of 7.2.24
herewith.

Lastly, dynamo D from 4GII has recently been
removed having done 5513 miles, and the results of the
examination of this machine are contained in AC.2 of 4.3.24
attached.

The additional mileage done by dynamo A on 2GII
since the examination in situ has not been sufficient to
render further examination of value. Accordingly there is
no report in this case. Contd.
