EAC.14. TORQUE TUBE.

Herewith we send N. scheme 2485., shewing the solid torque tube.
The increase of diameter in the centre of the torque tube is just where the present stress is highest, and it would enable us to thin the tube down. R.{Sir Henry Royce} thinks however that .125 is about as thin as it is desirable to go, and consequently we ask for the tube to be that thickness throughout, except for the swellings towards the flanges. It may be found possible subsequently to reduce this thickness.
