Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer}4/MH.{M. Huckerby}9.11.37. 1-B-IV REAR AXLE. This is to confirm that we have asked you to do the following work on the pinion and bearing unit of the above axle. (1) Fit thicker washer to bring pinion 0.005 out of engagement with crown wheel. (2) Fit thinner washer to put pinion further into mesh by 0.002. (3) Measure backlash of gears to determine whether pinion can be let in further 0.002. (4) Replace existing Hoffmann bearing by old standard type R & M.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} bearing in shop.
